High-Performance Ni-SiC Coatings Fabricated by Flash Heating

In this research, a novel flash heating coating application technique was utilized to create Ni-SiC coatings on carbon steel substrates with SiC contents much higher than is achievable using certain conventional techniques. Hardness profiles showed that the improved substrate by as 121%, without affecting substrate. Tribotests wear performance 4.7× in terms of rate (mm3/N·m) for same when an Al2O3 counterpart. Pure reference were also fabricated. However, experienced elemental diffusion Fe from into during fabrication. This occurred due increased heat input required pure fuse compared and resulted decreased tribological performance. Diffusion weakened coating’s hardness reduced resistance wear. It concluded ceramic–metallic composite can successfully be fabricated utilizing improve ceramic counterparts.

A novel C-Ni-SiC composite using sawtooth-like SiC as support and carbon as modified material was prepared by hydrothermal synthesis and thermochemical pyrolysis.
